What are ideal conditions for fishing the pass, such as tide, time, and wind? I imagine it holds mostly snook, but what else does the pass hold, and whats the best approach to fishing it?

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Clam pass has been loaded with snook but they are selective. There is so much bait around they're dialed in on the bait. Don't know if you want to fly or spin but live shiners is the best but you need a cast new. For flies use something small like the EP micro minnow or emerald shiner. Either incoming or outgoing tide is ok as long as it moving. Fish the mouth or the beaches close to it or look for rips or eddies. They also like to hang arounf shorline. Wind isn't a big deal now. Typically a light east wind in the am and a sea breeze in the pm.

Let me know how you do or if you have any other questions.

Thanks

Mark Ward

Thanks Mark.

Would be interested in fly fishing the pass sometime. I live up in Fort Myers and wanted to fish somewhere other than Sanibel. The situation sounds the same, tons of snook, except they wont hit anything a lot of the time. A friend of mine was having hundreds of fish ignore the live bait he was throwing with 20# fluorocarbon. The fish seem to gorge themselves during low light periods. Might take a ride down to clam pass one night.
