With the warm February and start to March the tarpon have showed. I'm finding them in some of the back bays where they typically show in the spring as well in the passes plus I've seen a few along the beaches. We had some nice shots while fly fishing out of Everglades City recently.
Snook have become more active and some bigger fish are being caught. I'm finding them in the passes as well as the backcountry. I've seen a few along the beaches and it shouldn't be long before we see bigger numbers. As always live bait is best although we've been catching some on Cotee jigs. The bait has been thick at the markers off the passes around Marco and Naples.
The smaller reds are still prevelent and were catching some bigger fish up to 27" are being caught. Mid tide in some of the backs bays and creeks have been best.
It's also a good time for catching a good variety of species such as pompano, trout, bonnet head and sharp nose sharks, mackeral, snapper and more. The other day we caught 12 species on jigs.
Spring is a great time of year to fish so give me a call if you'd like to book a trip. Tarpon season will be in full swing soon so call now to book your tarpon adventure. May and June is the best.
Tight lines.
