This afternoon I am sitting at the Everglades angler typing the fishing report since I am in town.
The Gulf has clear water but baitfish are less numerous than during my last visit. I encountered some mullet schools at Doctors pass last evening and something was chasing them. I had an epic battle with a big Jack at the shallows south of the pass. I saw a school of jacks coming by and launched a crease fly at them. One fish took the fly and took me into the backing. After a hard fight I almost beached the fish but then the leader broke. The Jack won.
There are still plenty of Snook on the beach. I had good succses with a red/white puglisi minnow at daybreak amd with a sparsly chartreuse/white small clouser during the afternoon.
At Gordon Pass I hooked a nice Snook at the seawalls which severed the leader after the couple of minutes with his headshaking tactics.
My fishingbuddy Michael and I hooked up simultaniously during a Jack attack and both lost the fish, shit happens.
For the rest we had little succses. We still caught some Skipjacks, small Jacks and Ladyfish but action was generally slow. At Naples pier there where still Snook around and a couple of days ago people where catching a lot of Black drum.
In the coming days I will try to finally hook some of the big Jacks.
Thanks to Mark Ward for letting me use his computer at Everglades angler and thanks to Joe for lending us the bikes.
