The first cold front of the season has passed over Naples. Good for people who like cooler less humid air, bad for flyfisherman wanting to sight fish for Snook at the beach. Yesterday afternoon we wanted to fish Gordon on the outgoing tide but when we came at the beach we came across the situation depicted below.
Naples beach.
So we left for pond X early. Tarpon where once again not showing themselves in the pond. We fished untill well after sunset but we blanked.
Well I did hook something but dragging in a freshwater turtle because the fly has hooked the shell is not really what I was looking for.
This morning the outside air was cool. It reminded me of home (bad).
Because the arts festival was going on in Naples the people at the restaurant recommended we come in early to avoid the so called "zoo"
later in the day. So we had breakfast at 07.00 hrs sharp.
We did not bother to go to the beach but fished pond X.
Once again we blanked, got skunked however you want to put it.
Michael the "Snookmeister" did manage to fight a Snook for a while but it came off. I had only two following Mayan Cichlids behind the fly.
I hate to get skunked. If the water at the beach does not clear up soon I am going to turn to the dark side. I will get my spinning rod, pick up a bunch of out-of-date shrimp and head for the pier and catch all the catfish of the world.
