Another successful fishing adventure, this time in upstate NY. Jeremy and I met in Syracuse and made the 30 mile drive to the Yankee Fly and Tackle Shop and Lodge located in Pulaski, NY. John and Dawn Rucando, guide and owners got me set up with the right gear, as this was my first experience trying to catch Lake Ontario's most sporting gamefish the steelhead. It seems to me that there are some different kinds of rainbow trout that run up the rivers after the salmon push out, but the most sought after seem to be the skamania, and John is definately the guy to put people on the fish. With his 20+ years of guiding experience on these rivers he knows where to find them, even when they are spread out thin, which they were due to the low water levels in the nearby rivers and streams. The lack of fish, and the large number of anglers pounding the few fish that had run up river, made getting the few fish that we did manage to tangle with a challenge. But after 4 days of covering a lot of ground and water, fishing 4 different tributaries in a 60 mile radius, and freezing my Florida ass off, we got a few decent fish, lost a ton of flies, and made some new friends. Thanks Jeremy, John, and Dawn (
