Fishing this winter continues to be good. Our most recent cold spell last week didn't last two long but as usual made the water in the backcountry clear and made the low tides lower.
Check out the pic below where the low tide allowed us to get out of the boat, walk across the sandbar and fish the deep cut. We landed redfish, snook, flounder and a couple of snapper all on swirl tail jigs. A fun experience as we don't normally have the opportunity to get out and wade fish.
We've also had some good days off-shore this past month fishing for bonita. On the calmer days the glass minnows and scaled sardines have been thick which drives in the bonita. Fished with Dan McGuire one day and he caught 9 bonita between 4-8 lbs all on fly.
Fly fished with Mike Potts and his friend recently. Mike was fly fishing and his friend was spinning. We were blowin’ out a good number of fish but couldn’t get them to eat so I switched his friend to a floating/diving plug and he caught a very nice 32” redfish, pic below.
Fished two half days with Dan McGuire earlier this week. Our first half day was tough fishing so the next half day with left at 5:30am and fished the snook lights near Gordon Pass. We caught ten nice snook on fly and once the sun came up with fished some backcountry bays at low tide and caught a nice 25” snook.
Fishing will continue to be good and just get better as the weather and water warms up. Tarpon have showed a couple of days recently and will continue to show as spring approaches. Trout, pompano, snook, reds and sharks are all in the mix the next month.
Give me a call if you’d like to book a trip or talk fishin’.
Tight lines.
