Last fall in Florida I broke my St.Croix tidemaster 3 piece spinningrod while fishing for Bonita offshore.
That same day I delivered the rod for repair at a local tackle store where I purchased the rod.
I flew back to the Netherlands and talked one of relatives in to taking care of the repair issue.

It is now three months later and I finally got an answer to what happened to my rod. This is the story I got from my relative who talked to one of the tackle stores employees:

The tacklestore received a letter from the repair company that the costs to fix the rod would be 110 dollars.
The person handling the mail in the shop mistook the letter for an add and threw it away.

I guess my relative came bugging them again and again what happened with the rod when they finally checked and called the repair company to find out that their repair offer was cancelled.

So they now offering me a deal to buy an identical rod for 100 $. At Cabela's they sell that type of rod for 175$ so I guess it is a fair deal. Still the whole business has left a sour taste behind so no more Ace and St.Croix for me for a while.

If I get the urge to go after the bottom feeders I might go for an ugly stick one piece though :) I rather save the 100 dollars for a new flyrod....

Why not just send back to St Croix?

Yep, why not should you aks. Well I think that is what tackle stores should be doing but I have a deep suspicion that the Ace guys are a couple of bums  When I red the story my relative gave me my first impression was that they told him a lot of bull.... (dip

I posted the same message on one of the fishing forums and only got replies from people telling me that the St.Croix rod company was OK and that repair costs should be limited to 10 bucks or so for shipping the rod back. Maybe the rod can be retrieved if the clowns at the shop have not thrown it away. If it still exists I will ask my relatives to call St. Croix directly.

Got some more news on the rod stuff as I contacted St.Croix directly.
They recieved the rod from Ace and deemed it as unrepairable.
So they offered to deliver a new rod at cost to Ace. Ace did not reply to their offer so cancelled the deal.
