I headed down this Monday, February 21, and plan to fish the Trail, Wootens, etc. for Baby Tarpon. I am from CT, visiting my parents who live in Naples. Been fishing this area for the past several years and have some luck with Snook in the canals adjacent to RT 41--the Tarpon are very picky however.

I use a 9WT rod with 10WT sink tip line and use flies similar to the glass minnow, in green and white. Any advice re time of day, flies, etc. will be appreciated.

If anyone is interested in joining me on a trip to this area, please let me know.

Regards

Ed Currie

Hi Ed,

I'd love to fish with you. Please stop by the shop and get acquainted. Unfortunately for me, I will be in the shop much more now that the height of the season approaches. I've been fishing the trail recently and there are some posts here on the forum you may want to read. As you know, it isn't always easy to hook those Tarpon, but if you watch the birds on a falling tide, persistance might pay off big time. I've had the majority of hookups on either a chartreuse clouser or a glass minnow.

Mash

I'll see you next week. Can't wait to get out in the FL sunshine and do some fishing.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the post. Yes the tarpon can be finicky. First light is good as with lots of fishing. Clear or clear tip lines help and if not getting bites switch flies alot.

See you this week.
