I will be in Miami March 16th through the 20th and I would like to fish the "TRAIL" that I have been reading about. I will have a day and a half to fish while my wife is at a conference. If any one could recomend gear, tides, times, places or any other info I would greatly appreciate it. I also would like to know if there are any fly shops close to the trail that would rent me the right equipment so I would not have to pack my rods and tackle.

The "Trail" is really the Tamiani Trail or RT 41. Adjacent to RT 41 in the Everglades between Miami and Naples is a canal. A number of bridges also pass over portions of the canal which are perpendicular to the the road. The canal is very close to the road, and because of this, some places are easier to fish than others. Therefore, you have to be careful about your backcast and where you fish in general.

Baby Tarpon and Snook are the main quarry.

Check the posts on this board for tackle suggestions. You must be careful about snakes, alligators and fire ants too. Bring a camera and binoculars--the birdwatching is excellent.

Have fun.

I use 7 or 8 wt rods wit a 9-10' leader, 12-16lb test. The last 12" of the leader should be about 40lb tst fluoro. The main flies people are using are the Enrico Puglisi (EP) flies. The everglades special works as well as smaller patterns such as the micro minnow, bay anchovy and the perfect minnow. Try different spots. The small bridges along 41 can be good also seagrapr drive east of 29 can have some good fising. Talk to Marshall at the shp. He fishes there quite a bit. Stop in the shop when your in town.
Thanks
