Clam Pass Park is a multi-purpose destination if you love to fly fish and you have a family along that prefers to beach it. This past weekend I took Tom on a 4 hour wading adventure that gave us some excitement. Meanwhile, Tom's wife and two young children played on the beach and had lunch at the tiki bar.

Tom is from the NewEngland Coast and an experienced angler. Hewas delighted to have caught this Jack and a Lady Fish. The fly of choice? The Chartreuse and White Clouser Minnow. (The Everglades Angler has bins full of them) The rod? An 8-weight Orvis T-3.

How far can you wade out in Clam pass?
I have only been around the first corner at the beach.

Hi Marcel,

I think the term Clam Pass may be confusing. Where we fish is throughout Inner Clam Bay.
About a hundred yards or so towards the Pass from the tiki bar there is a large opening in the Mangroves. This opening leads to a mud bar which extends about 100 yards to Inner Clam Bay and the channel. The channel was dredged a few years back (unfortunately this destroyed some of the habitat, grasses) and the near edges are wadable up to the Registry Bridge and in the other direction almost to the other bridge.

Curtis Grant tells me that he has waded from the canoe/kayak launch at the Registry parking lot all the way to the Registry bridge. He says that it was tough going an very muddy but that wading there gave him a shot at lots of Snook. I believe him.

headrush 999 and I paddled Lower Clam Bay back in November and found many Snook where Curtis says he's waded.

I'd like to kayak/fish the two (Middle and Upper) bays there.

I've fished the Pass itself where the Inner Bay drains to the Gulf. Extreem tides sometimes create a good situation for fish to feed at the mouth of the Pass, however beachgoers/kayakers and swimmers are often hard to avoid.

You think I could get my 16 ft Gannoe with a 10 hp all around in there? I always fish off the pass and just around the first couple bends... Been fishing there since I was 8 and my dad has been fishing there since he was probley about 8 too. The stories he tells of driving his dad's jeep right down to the pass amazes a youngin like me...

kn02,
your 16' Gannoe should be able to cover the entire Pass area including Upper, Middle and Lower Bays. Watch the depth tho. I'd anchor up, get out at good spots. Check the tide and go at high, fish the outgo.

good luck
