Hello,

Saturday the 26 march I went to lake Oostvoorne to catch some rainbow trout. I arrived at lake Oostvoorne and I was certainly not the only flyfisher present there (bellyboaters, fyfishermen and scubadivers). It was nice weather and was practically no wind. Tke lake looked like a mirror.

I went alone to Lake Oostvoorne (no flyfishers from Enschede wanted to go on saturday). I met there an englisch speaking guy (born in Oxford GB) from Belgium. This englisch speaking guy from Belgium caught already some seabass at another location in the sea that day.

I arrived at the water at a quay and I looked into the water and I saw some big rainbowtrouts laying in the sun by pairs. But the have no intention to take a fl, they were totally not interested in a fly. They were only interested in eachother.

After taking some pictures of this interesting scenery, I continued fishing.
I walked to a passage between 2 dams. While standing in the water the big rainbow trouts were cruising around me and stayed standing 3 feet in front of me.

Spawning behaviour??

I tried with the englisch speaking Belgium for 2 hours to catch some fish and we tried every fly we had with us streamers, eggflies (the eggfliy hoovered 8 inches in front of the rainbowtrouts nose but he was totally not interested). The had only eye for eachother and they swam like crazy through the water chasing eachother.
It is beautiful all those big fish surrounding you.

At the end of the fishing day a tried my secret weapon.

The secret of todays success.

I threw the fly , I think, 110 times in the front of the rainbowtrouts nose, but not interested...... suddenly he took the fly, because i teased him to much.

after 10 minutes and several run (continously followed bij his buddy), I landed the fish.
Look for the result. A nice rainbowtrout of 55-60 centimeters (20-24 inches).

It was a beautiful and a the end a successfull day

Greetings Hans F.

hi Hans,

Great report. I cant believe the pictures and how close you got! I wonder if that is spawning behavior. Anyway, looks like a success as you finaly fooled the rainbow.
Thanks for the report!

Those stupid fish will swim through your legs while you are wading at this time of year. It is quite an achievement that Hans managed to catch fish under these conditions.

Hans, maybe it's time you show a tying instruction of that ugly nymph you are catching all those fish with at stream X

Great pictures. That is most definately spawning behaviour. Rainbows spawn in the spring.
