Jeff LaRohelle, owner of Black Brook Cove Campground ( http://www.blackbrookcove.com/ ) near Rangely, Maine guides Trout and Salmon, Moose, Bear, Deer, and is a superb wing-shooting guide. He owns a 70- site campgroung on Maine's Aziscahoos Lake near Rangely's famed Brook Trout Ponds, Upper Dam Pool, the Rapid and the Magalloway Rivers. He's here visiting his In-Laws just down the street from me. So when Jeff said, "Yea sure Marsh, let's go fly fishing!", of course, I took us to Clam Pass.

Today we had the gorgeous East Wind, light and variable, an out-going tide and clearing water (conditions any wade guide loves here in Naples). We must have spooked dozens of fish, because we were talking about Maine fishing and hunting the whole time while we were casting Clousers and Borski pushers.

If you are a sportsman and you want to hunt and fish in Maine, Jeff is one of your best connections in the Rangely area. He told me that last season for Moose, Bear, and wing shooting was real good and the herds of Deer are healthy. The best news was that he's doing "Bean Hole Beans" again this summer....my favorite! I'll be up there for that....and, the Trout.

Tomorrow we'll explore the Trail and other haunts and talk more about wing shooting. Damn, I love birds over dogs! Stay tuned.

What type of flies do you use in clam pass, any good colors? And also, thank you for posting those pictures i now know exactly where you are fishing because of that little mangrove island in one of your pictures.

Snookin'

Two Trout today and one Snook. I'm using Chartreuse/white Clousers as a last resort, trying instead to experiment with small Mullet Patterns. This past week, I caught trout on Borski sliders, in addition to the other flies here. Snook have been hammering the Puglesi Finger Mullet or my own Eyed 2" long Minnow patterns with a dark fat head and a white belly. The fish haven't been not too selective this week as to the pattern, but the retrieve has to be easy and relaxed.
Where else have you been fishing?
:D
