I took my son Julian fly fishing for the first time this morning. He caught two very nice largemouth bass. The first was about 3lbs and the second a much bigger 5 lbs. I also caught two bass over 5lbs. They were my first fish on my new Orvis TLS rod. What a great morning we had. Julian did a great job casting in a very strong wind. He has been practicing diligently with an inexpensive combo I bought him. Anyway, just had to tell someone!

Great news! What flies were you using?

We used chartreuse poppers with rubber legs. With all of the rain recently the water level in the lake was high and the water clarity wasn't great, so we thought the noise and action of the topwater flies would be effective. We were kind of surprised that we only caught big fish. Normally we catch several small fish and maybe one "big" bass. I am excited about fishing there again when the water level goes down, and it clears up. The fish there have never seen flies before, and I am looking forward to trying some streamers.
