Francis Pandolfi asked me to post this report for him...
Striped bass are becoming very active in the Pawcatuck River on the CT/RI border. Water temp. has reached 62 degrees and the river is loaded with schoolies although a batch of keepers have been caught. Most effective fly is a sparsely tied clauser in white or chartreuse (1/0 hook size) while Wild Eye Shad and similar plastics (2/0 hook size) are working for the spinning guys. Catches to 100 schoolies for two anglers on a single tide are common right now. On nearby Watch Hill Reef the water temp. is still 46 degrees so there is no action yet; although the squid run should start soon and that will bring the big stripers up.
