On the 9th the wind came with force from the west-soutwest so the beach was one big mess.
High waves and stained water made flyfishing impossible.
Maria from Everglades angler told me to visit Lake Avolon instead.
Luckily one of the rangers from the park was at the shop and he invited me to visit the lake.
So I got a full tour of the lake and the ranger told me where to fish. Now I would get another shot at Florida's freshwater fish, maybe an ideal location to catch my first bass ever.
Lake Avalon
The shores of the lake consisted of two types.
One shore was tapering slowly out to the deep and was overgrown with waterplants.
The other shores consisted of a short shallow shelf with a steep dropoff into the deep.
The bottom was made up out of limestone and a few sandy areas. The water was very clear.
My first ever Largemouth bass
The lake was inhabeted by Largemouth bass, Mayan Cichlids
, Oscors and Snook.
I was lucky to catch my first couple of Largemouth bass, not big ones but I was extremely happy to add another species to my catch list. Best fly of the day was a black clouser as indicated by the park ranger.
Largemouth bass.
Another fisherman.
Largemouth bass
Since there was a swimming beach at the lake I figured it was alligator free. I still found it a bit hairy to wade trough all of the plants of the lakeshore. I was not quite sure about snakes and snapping turtles. I took comfort in one of EA guides remarks:
"Frogs = Snakes = Alligators = Fish".
I did not hear any frogs so I guess I was safe:)
