Hey Guys,
I'm heading back after the summer in Indiana. Just wondering how the fishings been. I heard from all my friends that the red tide has put a hurting on the fishing. I was also wondering what kinds of bait I'm gonna have to throw my castnet on? What time is best fishing? and what type of fish I should be chasing? I'm bringing my longtime girlfriend down for her first trip. She's never fished, and never seen the backwaters. I was thinking maybe a trip down south of Marco or just cruising the mangroves around Naples bay.. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Kyle Nicholas

Hi Kyle,

I was out the other evening just fishing the bays and shorelines just south of Naples and Dollar Bays. In a couple of hours we caught some snook, jacks and snapper using flies and jigs. Nothing big buy pretty good action. It's also a good time of year for top water plugs. As for bait I dont know if there is any off the Naples buoy but there has been off Marco. Because of the red tide some of my guides tell me that many of the baits die in their live well before they get to the backcountry or the mangrove shorelines where they want to fish. Over the years we never see the red tide south of Marco and it typically doent get much in the backcountry even between Naples and Marco. Below is a link to a NOAA site where you can view a satellite view of the red tide. It's not updated daily but it gives a rough idea of what's going on. Stop in when your in town.
