Well I have been having a hard time down south so I moved a few trips to Pine Island sound and Estero Bay. There is no other place I would rather fish than the 10,000 islands but with the constant wind and lack of bait, I had to adjust.
I have been finding bait very easy up north in Estero and Pine island. I have been scoring on Tarpon off the beaches early and then moving inshore to find some red hot action on Snook and Redfish. In Pine Island I have been getting some nice reds in the bushes but you have to get your baits deep in the woods then try to muscle the fish out when you get hooked up. Last week I had one of my best Redfish days ever with new clients Burt Whitt and friends.
In Estero I have been doing better with the snook having great sucess with the whitebait
If Tarpon is what your after then you must go and fish off Ft Myers beach right know. It is some of the best Tarpon fishing I have seen in a few years.

Interesting stuff. Last fall I have been a couple of times to Lovers Key to fish in the state park. I noticed that during the cold fronts when the water in Naples got coffee colored Estero bay still was reasonably clear. Is that always the case during times of strong winds ?

I believe the lush grass flats in Estero bay keep the bay clean most of the time even on windy days. Also the bay is really close to 2 deep flowing passes. I have seen estero look pretty ugly in a north wind at low tide.
