Yesterday I tried to fish Gordon pass in Naples. The strong winds have made fishing difficult for me in the last days. The beach was unfishable (at least for flyfishing) because the sand was stirred up. At the pass it was outgoing tide, lots of weed around the entrance. I tried my usual Snook spots but nobody was home. I moved to the inside of the pass where the tannic bay water was moving out with great force, no fish to be seen. I tried to fish Crayton Cove on the bay side but the headwind and parked cars made fishing almost impossible. I called it a day after an hour of fruitless fishing. Image Image Sunset at Naples pier. In the evening I visited the pier. I saw hardly fishermen on the pier, none of the regulars where present which was a sign that fishing was non-existant. At least the sunset was ok. Today on my last fishing day down here I visited Crayton Cove for a quick fishing fix. The winds where so strong that it almost felt like another one of these rotating storms was heading this way. This time I left the flyrod untouched and used the spinning rod to launch a lure far enough into the bay. After 15 minutes I saw a boil behind the lure and a nice Jack Crevalle hit the lure. Image Jack Crevalle. Currently I am finishing my last report in Naples. Maybe I can convince one of my local contacts to go fishing in the afternoon. Image Windy conditions at the cove. So my holidays went not according to plan. The beach fishing was the worst I had ever seen down here. Fortunately my fishingbuddies and the folks at Everglades angler helped me in my fishing ventures. Thanks to them all.
