I'll be in Naples from January till April and need to know whether it would be worthwhile to bring my fly fishing gear along. Last year I took a spinning rig and fished ponds around the condo for bass. In my travels I did not find places where it looked like fly gear would be useful or practical. I've never fished saltwater and the heaviest outfit I have is a 10 ft, 6-weight that I use for river smallmouth and nymphing for trout here in Western Mass. Any thoughts, sugestions appreciated.
Bring it.
There is great fishing potential especially March and April.
A 6wt will work but better to have an 8 or 9.
Try walking the beach South towards Gordons pass, or you can always walk to Clams pass in front of the Registry. great shore fishing unless it is rough in the Gulf.
If you don't bring it you probably will wish you had at some point in the four months you are here. If you go out with a guide he will supply all the gear and show you what to look for when fishing our waters. If thats an option for you
Good Luck
Aron
