Tarpon fishing is southwest Florida in February and March can be varied. Baby tarpon, which are year round residents can be caught in the backcountry creeks and canals along highway 41 and more. The bigger migratory tarpon can arrive anytime but is directly related to the weather. Tarpon seem to like 72 degrees. Once the water gets there the tarpon will show. These are the larger (70-140) tarpon that can be found off the beaches in late May, June and into July. But…in late February, March and April the tarpon can be found in the 10,000 Islands in the bays “layed up” waiting for the spring migration. Southwest Florida is one of the only places in the world you can fish for large tarpon in shallow water. Check out our video on our video page.
