Yesterday I noticed that the geese where flying in formation to the south indicating winter is on its way.
I assumed it might be the time of year when baitfish gather in the deeper parts of canals and harbors.
Lots of baitfish usually means that predators are not far away so this morning I fished at the marina on route to work.
I started in the darkness and had the first take when it became light.
First perch
The perch where surprisingly fat, the biggest I had caught since a long time.
Things where working out for me as I received many hits on a small black zonkerfly.
I fished with my 6ft. rod, 4 weight line and a fast sinking polyleader to get the streamer to some depth.
Another nice perch.
I caught most fish near the floating docks but one fish was caught more or less on sight.
The marina was home to coots, these birds paddled along the egdes of the docks.
You could hardly see them so sometimes it appeared as if big fish where moving around.
When I saw a swirl in the water with no coot in sight I reacted quickly and dropped the streamer nearby.
The fly was instantly taken and so I battled another perch.
Fishing was going well.
When it was a quarter to eight it was time to pack my gear and head for work.
I guess I will have to visit that spot more often in the coming days.
