Tarpon of all sizes are eating well. The passes have been holding the larger fish and the islands and the backcountry have been holding small to medium fish with a few giants mixed in. The early morning has been the best bite.
I had a heart breaker at the boat this weekend. Jimmy Adams had his first Tarpon at the boat. He dropped his rod tip too quiclky and gave the fish instant slack, then lifted the rod and wrapped the line around his tip. The big Tarpon surged and parted the line instantly. It was a hard lesson learned. It is very critical to start reeling just before you lower the rod and maintain constant pressure.
