I have been in town now for a couple of days (since oct. 4th)
and have been fishing the local beach.
Slowly getting tuned in to the fishing now but as tourists often do
underestimated the power of the Florida sun = burned.

During the first days I caught loads of small Ladyfish of the beach.
From daybreak untill the early morning they where everywhere.
Have not found big ones though.

Hunting Ladyfish.

Gaftopsail catfish, never thought I would catch one of those on the fly.
At first I thought I had finally hooked a Snook but oh what a surprise.

Image
Naples pier, I sometimes fish there untill the bathers are getting awake.
Always a possibility to run into a stray Snook.

Image
While fishing Crayton Cove for Jacks I saw a couple of fish milling under a dock that where no mullet.
I suspected Snapper but what a surprise, another Catfish species added to the fly caught fish list.
The fish flipped over while unhooking and guess what, stung (I knew the feeling from previous mishaps)

Fished Doctors pass and caught some Ladyfish and Spanish Mackerel inside the pass.
When the tide ran out I headed home and just as I noticed how clear the beach waters had become I spotted Snook.

So I spotted Snook which meant I had to stay and try to catch one.
As usually I spooked most fish, got the normal refusals but in the end one of the bigger specimens decided the fly I fished was the real deal.
The end result was a nice ballte with a good Snook, I won this time.

Fished the pass yesterday in the afternoon and got quite a few hits from the Spanish Mackerel hunting the bait at the mouth of the pass.
Caught my best one yet on the fly.

At sunset near pass.

Left the pass near sunset and noticed pods of baitfish moving along the beach in the last light.
Went into the gulf when suddenly a blitz occurred in casting range.
Got a few hits but could not get into fish.
Changed fly to a floating crease fly and fished it on my intermediate line.
Had some nice charges at the fly by the stragling predators but could only manage to hook one little Jack.

So I am doing fine right now.
It would be nice to see some bigger fish though, I really would like to do battle with a nice Jack Crevalle pretty soon.
Will be staying untill Oct. 24th so maybe some fish will cross my path, will report when something interesting happens.
