I will be staying by vanderbilt beach the second week in april. I am from michigan and am just looking for some tips on where to fish from shore, what to use for bait, and anything else helpful. Thanks

Vanderbilt is close to Clam pass, you can actually wade at the inside of that pass and fish along the mangrove channels for Snook or Redfish.

Since I use flygear most of the time I can not really help with bait but I have fished the beach with sandflees and shrimp and caught all kinds of
fish that way.
If I would have to fish the inside of the pass with hardware I would probably use plugs and plastic lures.

Hi, Thanks for the post. Spoons and jigs work well. They cover alot of ground and all our species eat them. If you have a cast net you can net some shiners which are the best. Check out: http://www.evergladesangler.com/portal/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=29
for somke spots to fish without a boat.
Thanks

I usually fly fish when I'm down there, but that time of year, a lot of guys surf fish with cut bait or live bait (shiners or shrimp) and catch everything from jacks, sheepshead, ladyfish, snook to all sorts of sharks. I watched a guy land 12 bonnet head sharks up to 36 inches on cut bait one day in about a 3 hour period. Great fun on the light tackle.

Clam pass is great too. Get out there early because it seems to get a lot of pressure this time of year. Good luck!
