Capt. Mark reports:
It is cold today, highs in the high 50's and high 30's tonight but...forecast to be warm by the weekend and next week.
Fishing this past week has brought alot of action and a variety of species. Snook, trout, pompano, snapper and plenty of ladyfish and jacks are to be had.
I'm still finding white bait at the Naples and Marco markers. In addition were using jigs and live shrimp. We've been catching the pompano on 1/4-3/8 oz. surgical tube jigs in chartreuse and pink. Snook are hitting the pilchards and the snapper are liking the shrimp.
With the cooler weather we've had low tides which makes shoreline fishing tougher but congregates the open water species like trout and pompano in the troughs.
For fly fishing there has been a fair number of snook in the back bays. Some of the bays deep in the backcountry have clear water and sight fishing has been pretty good. Winter snook and red fishing can be tough se we've been fishing open water with sink tip or sinking lines using clouser minnows and have had some success.
Here are some recent pics. Check out the 50lb Black Drum I caught in my cast net in 18' of water.
