I fished most every day the past 2 weeks and the fishing has been good. I’ve been mostly fishing the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve and a few trips out of Everglades City.

Snook are in the passes and we caught our first beach snook this week fishing a stump along Keewaydin. We have been catching some reds although not big. Tarpon are in their normal spots for April but have been tough to get to bite. They’ll bite better when the wind calms down. We did jump two fish the other day using live big eye shiners. We should start to see some tarpon along the beaches and passes by the end of the month.

Pompano and trout are hitting well. Chartreuse jigs are working and it doesn’t hurt to tip with a piece of shrimp. Besides the usual targets we are catching lots of incidental and unusual species. The other day we caught ten species including pompano, trout, snook, blue runners, the every present ladyfish, a guitar fish, sea robins, sharks and more.

Spring fishing is my favorite time of year to fish with lots of species, good action and the strong possibility of tarpon.
