Yesterday, 6-25-04, Henley and I went exploring down 41 and stumbled across this bay where we saw a bunch of juvenile tarpon rolling in the heat of the day. We threw a few jerk baits at one fish with no luck and continued on down the road, knowing that I'd be back the next day with a little boat to get me in there...
Well I showed up there at around 10:00 am today, and got on the water as soon as I could before the mosquitos carried me away. The tarpon were still rolling, but caught only a few decent snook early. After exploring this bay, I saw a snook whack the surface and got my exude plastic bait right in front of him and he took it hard. I saw that this was probably the biggest snook that I have ever had on when he jumped and almost hit my boat. Keep in mind im in a 10' Wilderness Systems Pungo100 and this fish is going to take me where ever he wants to. He wanted to go into the mangroves, imagine that! I won't even finish that story, but on to the good part...
I was throwing plastics near the tarpon I saw rolling, and got a bunch of hits, and landed 2 fish, the first one was about 5 lbs. and the second was about 3 lbs...
I think next time I'll throw in my gheenoe, and work this area via the fly rod, heck, maybe tomorrow...
