Fishing this past few weeks has been great. The calm clear waters of the gulf and the great weather has combined to make for a great fishery.

The early summer tarpon migration is in full swing. Tarpon are cruising north along the beaches and are also prevelant in the passes in the early morning and around sunset especiaslly on the falling tide. We've been doing pretty well on flies fishing shallow shoals at high tide using a chartreuse/grizzly keys style tarpon fly. Live threads and pilchards also work well.

Shark fishing has been great. Smaller sharks are being caught along the beaches in about 5-10' of water but we've been having the most fun fishing in the backcountry in about 6' of water catching bulls to 8' and a few lemons mixed in.

Snook fishing is also good. Snook are stacked up in the passes as they wait and feed before the upcoming spawn around the full moon June 26th. Snook are also cruising the beaches and are around most shorelines within about 1 mile of the passes.

As for incidental fish, mackeral, ladyfish, pompano and snapper are all active.

Summer is the best time of year to fish in SW Florida so give me a call if you'd like to spend some time on the water catching fish.

Tight lines.
