Tough fishing that is all I can see. We had abundant rains last week and lower than average temperatures. The waterlevel in the river has risen to springtime levels. Water was off-color aka stained.

A big one for Joop (46cm)

Fish were not as active as I had hoped for. The always dependable shiners where not eager to take flies this weekend. But we still prevailed. Got one brown trout on saturday from under a snag. Had to put lots of effort in it to catch that one. It kept rising under the snag and I had to figure out how to get the nymph down there. I managed several drifts without hooking the snag or any of the surround shrubs and trees. It was a very small brown trout but it was fun to catch it.

My brown trout and the snag where it came from.

Today the weather forecast was bad. Loads of rain was predicted. It turned out not so bad, a few showers and sunshine. Mayflies where on the rebound again.

Michael in action.

Did see some rising fish but could not catch any of those.
With the help of local contact Michael I was able to hook a rainbow trout though. The fish was very close to the bank and nailed the nymph only after it passed several times close to the fish.

It was nice to be outside today. Let's hope the weather will improve and we might get a chance to fish the dry fly pretty soon.

Also made aquintance with the nasty dog from one of nearby houses near the river. A German shephard known to have attacked anglers in the past. The owner had the dog not on the leash while walking through the (public) forest. I guess the mongrel was pretty determined to take a piece out of my waders. The dog was recalled last minute by his owner. I told the guy to keep his animal the leash.

There have been a long list of incidents with this dog and the local club will be seeking legal advice soon to once and all get rid of the problem.
Man, I just hate stupid people with dogs.

Yes sir, it would be a nice asset for your porch when you move to Chokoloskee. Since I have a catch-and-release net it will be no problem to catch the mean dog and put in a box. A few stamps and off it goes to Florida.

Just pick one out.

BTW can I lend your bow outfit in case plan A with the catch-and-release net fails ?

Yihaa :)
