I am still fishless with the new trout bum rod so this morning I tried one of the canals in the town where I work. Yesterday it was still raining but today the weather was better.
So I had minimal gear with me when I stopped at the canal. Water was almost stagnant and covered with a thin layer of green algea where the canal entered the local harbour. Flow was minimal to non-existent.
There was some surface activity of very small shiners. I forgot to bring the dry flies so I tried fishing a small saywer nymph with a strike indicator just in the surface.
The little fish all went for the strike indicator instead of the nymph.
There where a few bigger fish in the canal but I could not determine what they where. Either large shiners or yellow perch.
I blanked once more. I have seen that the place contains fish so tomorrow morning I am going an hour earlier to work with some more gear to check the place thoroughly out. Thursdayevening I am off for an evening fishing session in Germany so this week the trout bum will GUARANTEED see a fish.
